10 Things Conquest Teaches You About Life (Video)

Who ever said it's just a game? Here are seven things that Conquest teaches you about life.

Check out the video here, or read a summary below.

  1. Be a pack rat! Just as every time you get rid of some old junk it becomes valuable, it seems like anything you barter at the beginning of the game would be your saving grace later.
  2. Live life in the short term. Time is a resource not to be squandered. If you move back to a location just to mount a steed or equip another item, before you know it, your opponent will have recovered. In life, if you wait too long for what you want, someone else will take it. Go for it!
  3. Beware sunk cost. Sunk cost means sinking more resources into something that's a bad gamble. For instance, when your opponent uses a trick to keep one dumb unit alive, don't run everything you have just to finish the job. Be logical. If your line in the grocery store is really slow, just go to another one. Don't feel committed to that one. It's poor logic. If your candy gets stuck in the vending machine, move on. (Actually, don't. That can't be forgiven. You must get that candy at any cost.)
  4. Use your resources wisely. I see a lot of players over-equip a unit to sacrifice on something else just because they don't want to do the math. Don't make this mistake! Just use what's needed to get the job done.
  5. Simplicity=good. A simple, potent strategy pays off. Focus on what you need and leave the rest out. Life is the same way--the more you bog yourself down with useless possesions and obligations, the less happy you'll be.
  6. Hard work pays off. Spending time and effort sculpting the right domain, honing your skills, and making the right decisions pays off. It'll help you win, and it's a great feeling to have really earned that victory.
  7. Intelligence trumps knowledge. Knowledge might help you win in Jeopardy or get an A in a class, but in the real world, intelligence is far more important. You might have the knowledge of every resource in the first set of Conqeust, but if you can't use reason and logic to act on that knowledge, it's useless.
  8. Life is more than winning. Oftentimes you learn the most when you don't win.
  9. Life is progression. Just as building the perfect domain takes time, becoming the person you want to be in life takes time. A constant progression is far more enriching than up and down spikes.
  10. Money isn't everything. There's nothing worse than a stockpile of gold and nothing meaningful to do with it!
